How to Write a Research Paper

Research papers are a common aspect of a college education and it can be one of the most difficult assignments ever for a person who doesn’t know how to write one. There are three different ways to write a research paper: the five paragraph essay, general formats, and doing by example.

Five Paragraph Essay

The five paragraph essay is a good foundation for any paper or speech. When doing a research paper the number of paragraphs will be different but the structure remains the same. Break up the paper into three parts; introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction should be only a couple of paragraphs at most. The purpose is to catch the readers attention within the first couple of sentences. Then state the thesis and the points that the reader will find in the body. There should be at least three points or more that back up the thesis. For the body of the research paper, write those points out by using evidence to prove each point. The conclusion is like the introduction but in reverse. It ties the whole paper together and brings the subject to a close.

General Formats

Another way to write a research paper is to do an online search for research paper formats. There are many sites now available for anyone that can connect to the internet. Some of the web pages are topic specific and can help with a particular subject such as psychology or biology research papers. Once the ideal format is found it is a matter of researching and putting in the data in a way that follows the format best suited for the project.

By Example

For some papers, the best way to write a research paper is to do by example. There are many well written papers out on a variety of subjects. Don’t copy the work but instead notice how the paper is written and write the paper in a similar fashion. That helps to make sure the research paper is written in the right form for the subject matter.
All research papers have a few things in common. They require evidence, including more than online sources. Papers should be on subjects that the writer finds interesting. Writing research papers will never be an easy task, but it doesn’t have to be a difficult one either. With some hard work it can be an easy task for anyone.
