How to Write a Business Grant Proposal

One of the most important parts of applying for a business grant is the grant proposal itself. Grants come from many different sources but require basically the same grant proposal information. It is important to remember when starting the proposal to make a good impression on the organization you are asking to give you a grant.

When writing your proposal, make sure to keep all the documents together that are included in the proposal. All documents, whether being sent to the organization awarding the grant or not, need to be together in a file. No matter the importance of the document or what reference information it is, it may be useful later on. Keep all your ideas for your plan and proposal in one place so you can easily add to it at any time.

There are many things to remember when wiring the proposal:

1. Give a detailed introduction of you and your organization
2. Make sure to give an accurate summary of the idea.
3. Provide a mission statement and objectives of the business.
4. State the objectives and future funding plan
5. Show a detailed budget for costs.

The summary of the business grant proposal is the most important part. This will give an outline of your business proposition from beginning to end. The summary can be in different part of the proposal, sometimes as a cover letter or on a separate page. It should only be three or four paragraphs long, brief, precise and define the idea.

The best way to get the summary completed is to write the proposal first and then come back to the summary. The proposal should hit all the major points of your business plan and at the same time sum it all up. The success of winning the grant will come from the summary because this is what is usually read first by the committee that is awarding the grant. The summary will either encourage the reader to read more or stop reading right there.

If while writing your business grant proposal you get stuck on a part, just skip it and come back to it later. It will not be perfect the first go round. It will take a lot of time, work and patience to have a winning proposal that will be awarded the grant.
