How to Prevent Accidents in the Workplace
Depending on where you work, your office or place of work, can be dangerous. Sure, the dangers of working in a warehouse or factory with moving machinery are much more obvious than in a traditional office/desk setting – but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
Use Proper Signage
Having the proper signs in place throughout an office or workspace is crucial to preventing accidents. Safety signs can be used to alert employees and office visitors to potential dangers in a work space – from something a simple as wet floors to something more serious such as high voltage. A good place to buy them online at reasonable prices that I found is here: www.safetysign.com.
Secure All Loose Wiring
Some form of wiring is commonplace is just about any workplace these days. Whether there are extension cords on a job site or internet cable running through an office, these wires are present and sometimes visible. Since they can be laid out along the floor, these wires can easily cause someone to trip and hurt themselves. Pay special attention to tying loose wires together in a bunch and either burying them in the walls or securely fastening them to the lower molding, away from people’s feet.
Create an Exit Plan
One of the biggest dangers in any office is a fire. If there’s a fire, what do you do? Where do you go? Who is in charge of making sure everyone is out of the building? There are lots of things to consider. But in the event that a fire breaks out and fire fighters have not yet arrived on the scene, there should be an exit plan in place. Write it up on paper and review it with everyone in your office. Make sure you point out all the possible exits and a meeting place outside the office where everyone can be accounted for. By having an exit plan in place in the event of an emergency, you can help prevent additional accidents from happening.
