How to Make a Bulletin Board
A bulletin board can be a real asset to companies who need to get a general message out and even busy families who need a little more organization in their lives. Instead of spending money on a boring board that is not very appealing, make something with a little more flair that is sure to grab attention.
Prepare Your Base
Almost all bulletin boards have one thing in common: a back and cork board. Choose a durable thin plywood and have it pre-cut to your measurements. Pick cork that is under a quarter inch thick. If it is any thicker, it may be more difficult to attach to the plywood. Cut the cork board to either the exact size of the plywood or a little smaller. (Cutting it smaller and centering it will allow for a decorative edge or border later.) Using a heavy duty glue, carefully attach the cork to the plywood.
Cover the Bulletin Board
In order to make the bulletin board easy on the eyes, purchase an appropriate fabric that will grab attention, but not get old looking at. You will need enough fabric to cover the front of the board and wrap around a few inches in the back. Stretch the fabric over the board and secure in the back using a staple gun. If you want a fluffier looking board, you can spread some poly-fill stuffing over the front of the cork before securing the fabric in place.
Decorate
Head to the craft store to find some cute ideas for decorating your bulletin board with cute buttons, ribbons, sequins, decals and more. The possibilities are endless and you will have fun doing it. Try placing buttons in an alternating fashion across the board and using ribbon in a criss-cross pattern to connect them. Adding fringe or beads around the edges of the board can give it a frilly effect. Guys may want to experiment with some fun effects like turf from the hardware store instead of fabric. You can then paint some white yard-lines across the “field” and create a football style board. Go the extra mile and place football decals at the end of the tacks.
Having a bulletin board can be a real blessing in bringing order to every day life. Make sure to put it in a location that gets a lot of traffic and at eye level for getting noticed. You will be glad you made one with your own tastes and ideas and others will appreciate the thought and personal touch that you gave to it.
