How to Get Great Seats at a Baseball Game

Baseball is America’s national pastime and going to a game – whether as a young kid or an adult – can be an amazing experience. Each stadium has its own history and is setup differently, with the number of spectators it can hold varying. Professional baseball’s smallest stadium, Fenway Park in Boston, holds around 37,000 people; while it’s largest stadium, Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland, California, holds just over 63,000. With so many seats available, you’d think it would be easy to get a great seat, right? Of course, that’s not always the case! Below are some tips for scoring a great seat at your favorite baseball stadium:

What Does a “Great Seat” Mean?

There are always going to be different opinions on what constitutes a “great seat” at a baseball game. You could be sitting in one of the private boxes high up at Yankee Stadium and think you’re in heaven. Another person at the same stadium may think 20 rows behind home plate offers a much better experience – and for a cheaper price. So before you go out seeking tickets, have a good idea of what exactly you want in mind.

Investing in Season Tickets

One of the best ways to score some great seats is to invest in season tickets. Season tickets are like “shares” in one or more seats. You pay for the entire seasons worth of tickets and typically get first dibs if your team makes the playoffs. Some die-hard fans go to all the games, while others sell off a large portion of the tickets for profits. The costs of season tickets varies depending on what team you’re trying to see; if you plan on taking a trip to Chicago’s Wrigley Field, be prepared to shell out a lot of money. The Chicago Cubs were recently rated at America’s most expensive baseball team to see – though these ratings typically change from year to year.

Scour the Internet

There are tons of great deals on the internet and no shortage of ticket sites from which to purchase prime seats. You should be able to find great deals at or near cost if you look hard and early; if you wait too long, don’t expect anything good to be left for what you may consider to be a “fair” price.

Go to an Unpopular Game

An unpopular game may not be the most exciting game to go to, but it’s a great way to score nice seats that would otherwise cost a bundle if your home team were to host the likes of the Yankees or Red Sox. Teams like the Baltimore Orioles, who play at good ole’ Camden Yards, for example, typically have plenty of good seats empty and games that aren’t hyped up. Head on over to the stadium and see what you can get!
