How to Fix Car Speakers
For a driver, the car audio system is the source of companionship to keep a driver company during his/her traveling. Without car audio speakers, we would not be able to listen to music or news. Imagine how bored a driver would be without them! Just how can we fix car speakers without engaging a specialist? Read on to find out more.
Step 1: Find out where the problem lies
Firstly, find out the cause of the problem. If there is distortion of the car speaker’s sound, or no sound from the speaker, unplug the wiring before plugging it back. Sometimes the problem might happen due to loose wire connections. Next, check if the wire is damaged, wear and tear may happen to wires, and therefore, if this happens, replace the wire with a new one.
Step 2: Test the speaker’s coil and web
Test the speaker’s coil and web by connecting both sides of the speaker to an AA cell (I personally recommend a 9-volt battery for best results). If your speaker is still in working condition, either a “thump” or “pop” sound will be generated.
Step 3: Check for any Speaker Cone Tears
Remove the speaker grill with a screwdriver set, and check for any tears on the cone. Sound is produced from the voice coil before the sound wave is being spread to the cone. Therefore, tears on the cone, will result in sound distortion. If it is just a small tear, silicon glue (NOT super glue) will resolve the problem. As for bigger tears, you may have to use masking tapes instead.
Step 4: Check the voice coil and magnet
The voice coil in a car audio system serves as a function to motive force of the magnetic field. Therefore, if the magnet or the voice coil is damaged, you will have to replace the whole audio system sets as such damage are usually non-repairable.
Hope this article could help all the users out there to solve their car speaker systems. Remember to take good care of your car speaker system, as they can be a driver’s best friend on the open road.
