How to Brew Ice Tea

Ice tea is the only way to go, or at least it is for this set in her ways, don’t venture outside the box lady. Put 8 tea bags in a glass gallon jar of cold water and set it in the sun to brew. Is there another way to brew my tea? Probably, but do I really want to? Well, let’s try thinking outside the box!

Cold Brewing in the Hot Sun

Summer is my favorite time for ice tea. Put about eight tea bags of any flavor I want into a gallon of water and leave it sitting in the sun for a few hours. This isn’t the only way but the easiest for people on the go who just want some plain ole ice tea.

Sometimes it is nice to add a little spice to my sun tea and it is as simple as adding whatever spice I have a fancy for at the time. Try adding cinnamon to an herbal peach tea and taste the zip. When adding spices that just float in the brew it is wise to strain it before drinking.

Brew it Fresh in the Winter

Unfortunately the weather in my corner of the world in the winter won’t allow me to brew sun tea. Instead there is this handy dandy ice tea maker that comes in right handy for ice tea in the winter. It is simple to do just fill the pitcher to the fill line with water and pour it into the machine, and make sure you put the tea bags just like your automatic coffee maker. Now you can fill the pitcher with ice up to the line that is indicated and turn it on. Your fresh brewed ice tea is on the way!

Spice for Life

It is fun to take tea leaves, any flavor you like, and throw them into a pot of water that isn’t quite boiling. Common consensus as far as I have discovered is that the water temperature should be about 150 degrees. Add herbs to the tea leaves such as lemon balm for a lemon taste or ginger for well, you know. Let the flavors blend together for about 5 minutes and once again unless your taste in tea runs along the chewy side it is best to strain the leaves and herbs out of the liquid. You can enjoy your own brew anytime you like.
